For the 10th anniversary show, the designer decided to go back to his urban roots. This time around the designer looks to the streets for inspiration on his latest and recent collection, which was on display at New York Fashion Week. His collection resembled his earlier years with a distinct urban grunge look with plenty of leather, crop tops, baggy bottoms, studded shoes and earrings. Alexander’s collection resembles a slouchy, cool, off-duty look that brings a casual and relaxed appearance. It was the signature Wang look that the fans and designers came to see on display.
In July, the designer made headlines for announcing that he would leave as the creative director at Balenciaga. For his 10th anniversary he new not only did he have to do something different but had to “start over”. On Saturday morning before his anticipated SS16 Show, Wang posted a photo on Instagram asking his fans if they wanted to press the reset button. With over 12K likes, we assume the answer was “yes”.
At the end of his show, Wang was cheered while running across and bowing in front of a massive video screen that played footage of his 10 year career. Following the show, the designer hosted a party in true Wang fashion, which was filled with VIP guests and friends that included: The Weeknd, Bella Hadid, Nicki Minaj, Lewis Hamilton, Lady Gaga, just to name a few. His surprised performers were: Ludacris, Lil’ Wayne, ASAP Rocky, Tinashe, and ASAP Ferg.
He will host his final SS16 show for Balenciaga on October 2nd in Paris.
